If You Can't Beat Em

You might as well join em...
That's just what I did yesterday.  This winter has been relentless.  It has been a constant battle since the end of November.  I have only seen the bare ground once and it was for one day.  The next day, we were hammered with the worst snowstorm of the year.  So, yesterday I cried uncle, decided I was not going to let winter break me and I went snowshoeing with this little girl...
What a trooper she was.  She is barely one foot high at her shoulders, but she plunged through that snow like a dog three times her size.  She is a true terrier - full of personality, perseverance and gumption.  And, she is a great snowshoeing partner :)

Happy Dance!!!

I am doing a happy dance.
Yes, I am.
I got a new energy efficient refrigerator yesterday and I love it.
Just look at it.
Doesn't it look happy too?
It well stocked with both sweet and salty items...
Vegetables (steamed broccoli) in attractive bowls...
Fermented beverages and proteins...
And enough hot sauce to last about a month in our house...
Yes, it's true.
There are five different hot sauces on this shelf alone.
I put the sixth jar of hot sauce behind the Earth Balance margarine because it didn't fit in this shelf...
Wow!!!

What the???

Temperatures were in the high 50s on Friday.
Yesterday, this...
It was actually the worst snow storm we  have seen in our neck of the woods this year.
Come on Spring.
Can't wait to see you.

Happy Valentine's Day

No going out to dinner and a movie, or cards and chocolates.
But, a potted rose bush for me...
And oatmeal raisin cookies for the boys.
And, of course, smiles all around :)

I Saw Spring Today

I saw  it in the sunshine, blue skies, and  icicles melting.
I also felt it.
It was in the warm breeze that touched my face.
It was the hint of Spring and it will be here before you know it.
Just as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.

All Creatures Great and Small

I stayed home today.  Have a bit of a stomach bug.  However, it has been a very comforting day.  I found out that Netflix carries what I believe to be the best all time classic BBC production - All Creatures Great and Small.
Google Image
The stories set amidst the English countryside, combined with fine performances of  the actors (both human and animals) sets this series apart from all others.  And even though it was produced over 30 years ago, the stories remain true and always put a smile on my face.  It was just what I needed today.

Stripes

I don't really like to complain.
Well, at least not on the blog.
Today is going to be the exception.
About two weeks ago, I came home from work and saw a cat carrier laying on the side of my road.
So I backed up just to make sure there wasn't a cat in there.
It was really cold.
Temperatures were in the single digits.
Wind chill below zero.
No cat.
Fast forward to today.
I look out to the barn.
Gray cat, green eyes.  Thought it was Suzie.
Nope, Suzie just came in through the bathroom window.
Cat living in my barn.
Asked DJ to go out to the barn and check on the cat.
Sweet, nice cat with stripes on his/her tail.
Welcome to your new home Stripes.
Shame on your previous owners.
Irresponsible pet ownership is not acceptable in our home.
You will have a wonderful life with us.
Spaying and neutering is the next item on your agenda.
You made a good choice choosing us as your family.
Welcome to the family...
***Edited to note that cat is definitely a young male that needs to be neutered.  Spay and neuter your animals.  It is part of responsible pet ownership.***
