Five and Dime Stores

Do you ever wish that you could just go back to a simpler time?  A time when the pace was a little slower?  When you could go to one store and get almost everything you needed?  I know I do.  Last Sunday, my Mom, daughter and I did just that.
Care to join us on our adventure back to a simpler time?
We're going to Vidler's and if you decide to go, make sure you put on a pair of good sneakers because you're going to be on your feet awhile :)
Vidler's has everything.
From pretty teapots to jars perfect for pickled eggs at Easter time to salt and pepper shakers...
And who doesn't love lunch boxes, handkerchiefs and bandannas?
Or board games?
Piggy banks and puzzles?
Davey Crocket coon skin hats for the boys in your life...
Perfumes and pretties for the ladies...
A good pair of suspenders and a wide variety of material...
and you are set for awhile.
And you leave with a smile on your face and a little less cash in your wallet.
But so well worth it.
Happy Friday everyone :)

To the Dog Show We Go!!!

My three favorite things are babies, dogs, and daisies.  Let's make it five things.  Let's add sunshine and blue skies to the list.  Well yesterday, I had at least four of them - sunshine, blue skies, babies and dogs.  You know what, I probably had all five - there had to be a dog named Daisy at the event;)  After all, there was a Truman and a Noble.  Chances are, there was a Daisy.  I even added sprinkles to my ice cream - my Mom and daughter were right there with me :) We walked in and immediately my daughter spotted her favorite dog - the Old English Sheep Dog.
In the ring, directly in front of that photo was an English Setter.  Reminded my Mom and me of one of the dogs we had when I was growing up - Lucky.  My Mom loved that dog.
It was a sign.  We were going to have fun.  And, fun we did have :)
There were Shetland Sheep Dogs and King Charles Spaniels...
There were Bloodhounds with heads so big that their nose wouldn't fit in the picture (but I got the jowls:)...
Great Pyrenees and Poodles...
Bulldogs - big and small.
I need to get you out of there Puppy so we can play!!!
There were really big dogs, too.
There was a Great Dane with the most beautiful color coat that I have ever seen.
I cannot remember the name of this breed, but he was a real sweetheart.  Just check out his tongue if you question that :)
Let me introduce, Truman the Boxer and Noble the Westie.  Two of my favorites at today's show.  Truman's owner was a cute, bright little boy who loved his dog very much.  I hope he did well showing.  And Noble reminded me of my beloved, Teddy :)  Actually, brought a tear to my eye.
Then, there was this one that reminded me of my sister's dog, Pepper Ann.
It is a German Shepard...
There was this sweet Basset who I just could not get a good picture of (even though I pet him and talked to him in my sweetest puppy voice).
So, I left.   And, he turned his head a looked at me like, "Where you going?"
I think he is definitely worthy of three photos :)
 Almost...
Big or little...
Attitude...
or just plain cute...
Dogs have enriched my family's life in so many ways.  They did not disappoint today.  We left the show with smiles on our faces and hair on our clothes :)
As it is.
As it always shall be.
Enjoy your day!!!

Love Is In The Air

I am not sure what the cause of it is.
It may be the heart garland that I made using Dollar Tree hearts and ribbon from Michaels...
It may be this beautiful bunch of carnations...
It may be this wonderful little dog who enjoys her John Deere squeaky bone so much and adds so much joy to our home...
It may be Valentines Day plates and new vine plants...
Whatever it is, it is the real McCoy and I am so glad it's visiting my house.
Have a great day :)

Friday Night Basketball

The boys and I went last night and watched my nephew, Daniel, play basketball.  We've never gone to one of his games because he lives like an hour away.  However, when I  found out he was playing in a nearby town, I said, "Let's go!!!"  Off we went.
Daniel and one of his best friends are Co-Captains of the team.  Look at Daniel, he's tall.  I call him Gigantor (as in the movie, Night at the Museum :)  He has height...
Style...
Attitude...
and shoots foul shots like a pro...
And, although they lost, he was the high scorer of the game and deserving of the drink of champions...
It was my honor to present you with that Daniel ;)
You done good!!!

Baking Bread

It was cold and blustery here yesterday and I did not want to go anywhere.
So I stayed home, cleaned, made beef stew and decided to tackle one of my New Year's resolutions - baking bread.  I have to say, it was not nearly as frightening as I had imagined it would be and the house smelled wonderful.
In fact, I liked it so much that I think I will continue to bake and break bread on Sundays.
The bread was wonderful with the stew I simmered on the stove all afternoon.
The simple pleasures of homemaking on a Sunday afternoon that give me sustenance.
Enjoy your day :)
